Tension Adjustment of Control Knobs (for Manipulators)


Getting Started

The principal cause of a manipulators failure to move smoothly after long use is the tension of the control knob. Tension adjustments can be made when the control knobs get too stiff or too soft.

* This type of control knob has no fixing screw on its side.

* This type of control knob has a fixing screw on the side, and a set screw on the top that can be rotated by Hex wrench.

Non-adjustable Coarse Control Knob (with no set screw)

Coarse Control Knob (with a triple thread screw)

* This type of control knob has a fixing screw on the side, and a screw on the top that can NOT be rotated by Hex wrench.

The screw does not have a head for wrench. This type of knob is designed to prevent a loosening of knob, thus it can NOT be adjustable by customers. If necessary, contact us for adjustment.


How to Adjust

How to Adjust the Tension of Pinion Knob
  1. Hand-hold the 3. Control Knob.
  2. Turn the 4. Set Screw counterclockwise with an Allen wrench to loosen it.
  3. To stiffen the 3. Control Knob, turn it clockwise lightly. To soften it, turn it counterclockwise lightly. This permits adjustment of the tension by friction of the 1. Plastic Washer and the 2. Spring Washer.
  4. When adjusted to the desired tension, hand-hold the 3. Control Knob and turn the 4. Set Screw clockwise to fasten it securely.

How to Adjust the Coarse Control Knob
  1. Hand-hold the Control Knob.
  2. Turn the Set Screw counterclockwise with an Allen wrench to loosen it.
  3. To stiffen the Control Knob, turn it clockwise lightly. To soften it, turn it counterclockwise lightly.
  4. When adjusted to the desired tension, hand-hold the Control Knob and turn the Set Screw clockwise to fasten it securely.

How to Adjust the Coarse Control Knob (with a set screw)
  1. Turn hidden screw counterclockwise with and Allen wrench to remove it.

  2. After removing the hidden screw, find the fixing screw in the same hole. Turn the Fixing Screw counterclockwise with an Allen wrench to loosen it.
  3. Turn the Set Screw counterclockwise with an Allen wrench to loosen it.

  4. To stiffen the Control Knob, turn it clockwise lightly. To soften it, turn it counterclockwise lightly.

  5. When adjusted to the desired tension, hand-hold the Control Knob and turn the Set Screw clockwise to fasten it securely.
  6. Turn the Fixing Screw clockwise with an Allen wrench to fasten it securely.

  7. Set the hidden screw back in the fixing screw hole, and turn it clockwise to fasten it securely.
